Trump Administration Will Crack Down on Marijuana
The Trump Administration will crack down on marijuana, as evidenced by the appointment of Jeff Sessions of Alabama to Attorney General. Sessions, one of the staunchest anti-pot officials in the US Government, has a history of anti-marijuana beliefs and even infamously stated a few months ago "good people don't smoke marijuana." In addition to that, Sessions actually claimed he thought the KKK "were okay until I found out they smoked marijuana." As Attorney General, Sessions will have the ability and authority to crack down on and severely limit legal and medical marijuana.
In fact, when President Obama famously stated that marijuana is no more dangerous than drinking alcohol, Jeff Sessions had a notoriously insane meltdown, claiming "It's a mistake. We have seen this experiment before. Lives are at risk." He continues to propagate the demonstrably untrue claim that marijuana is a gateway drug and linked the declining US murder rate to the War on Marijuana. His opinions on marijuana have nothing to do with science, research, or evidence, bur rather reefer madness propaganda of the early 20th century. He is completely backwards and out-of-touch with reality.
Regardless of your opinion of the Obama Administration, he has allowed states to experiment with legal and medical marijuana free of federal interference. Marijuana is illegal according to the US Government and scheduled with heroin and cocaine and LSD as the most dangerous substances on earth with zero noted medical value (a preposterous statement). He has the power to interfere with states that have experimented with legal and medical cannabis, but he hasn't. He has chosen NOT to enforce federal laws banning cannabis and instead respected states' rights, a hallmark of conservatism and the Republican party. The incoming President and his cabinet can reverse this trajectory and enforce federal laws on legal marijuana ventures. They will try to destroy any remnant of legal and medical marijuana that the United States has erected. However, in the absence of strict federal enforcement, states have flourished upon legalization.
Colorado has been the epitome of success and progress, establishing a booming legal marijuana system and reaping $53 million in tax revenue the first year alone. This money went toward improving local communities and schools. There is a green-rush sweeping the nation and it has the potential to make a lot of people rich. Not only that, legal and medical marijuana provides hundreds of thousands of decent-paying jobs in states such as California and Colorado. This nascent industry could revolutionize our economy and tax system. It's a business like any other and would easily be able to help millions find gainful employment. Furthermore, hundreds of thousands of tourists are flocking to pot-legal states for vacation, and dumping thousands of dollars into the local economy they visit each time. The tax incentives alone are staggering - states would find a new source of tax revenue and could allocate that money as they see fit. It could raise hundreds of billions of dollars nationwideStates could use that money to address their biggest problems, or make investments into their own communities.
Rather than move toward a contemporary and safe system of marijuana commerce, Sessions has pledged to lead a crusade against the flourishing marijuana industry. Despite the fact that 54% of Americans support legal marijuana, and an incredible 89% support medical marijuana, the Trump Administration will ignore the will of the people in favor of big government crackdown. Millions of free adults will continue to be incarcerated over pot. There will be SWAT raids on dispensaries via the federal government. Innocent medical patients will be handcuffed and thrown in cages for possessing a personal amount of a plant. Seizure victims will have their medicine taken from them and their parents will be sent to prisons for trying to help their children find relief. Men and women with PTSD from serving in the Middle East will be criminalized for smoking a joint once they come back to the United States. Black and brown people will be targeted and put in jails for having a nugget or two in their pocket.
Marijuana and its derivative products have the ability to greatly aid our economy and country. Helping the sick, reducing binge-drinking, incredible tax revenue, nascent industry, increased tourism, freedom of consciousness, reduction of big government, economic benefits.... so many positive reasons for the evolution of the legalized and medical marijuana industry. But with Jeff Sessions as Attorney General, the aformentioned positives can and will be assaulted. He is coming for our right and freedom to use marijuana through big government. I thought Trump pledged to "drain the swamp" and bring change? I thought he was going to get rid of big government? Pfft, I must have been high to believe those things. The US Government led by Jeff Sessions as Attorney General will bring back the dark ages of marijuana crackdown.
